Deputy PM Demeke inaugurates Alert Emergency Center


Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen on Tuesday inaugurated Alert Emergency Center which is built in the premises of Alert Hospital. The center would provide specialized medical treatment for persons who experience severe physical injury caused by accidents, it was indicated. Demeke stated on the occasion that Ethiopia's health policy has registered impressive achievements during the past few years. He indicated that the establishment of the emergency center that is meant to treat severe injuries will have a greater significance in safeguarding the wellbeing of citizens. According to the deputy prime minister, the government is also exerting efforts to reduce traffic accidents and accidents that occur at construction sites. The effort to curb traffic accidents has not, however, brought the desirable result, Demeke added. He further called for the execution of consolidated awareness creating activities among the society to minimize the problem. General-Manager of Alert Center, Mezemer Ketema, on his part said the emergency center has in the past two months conducted brain and orthopedic surgeries and other treatments. The center has carried out emergency surgery for 103 citizens and protected more than 500 victims from amputation and death during the stated period, according to Mezemer.
